On Windows/Linux, the keyboard works fine via wire (no bluetooth connectivity required). On macOS, it will only connect over bluetooth (it will not work if bluetooth is disabled).
Is there any way to force it to connect via wired connection? The bluetooth is laggy at times.

OT: It’s an Apple wireless Magic Keyboard with Touch ID intended for an Apple Mac with Apple silicon.
(Nobody else has Touch ID keyboards, and the Touch ID keyboards require M1 or M2 Macs.)
OP: I’ve routinely used Apple Magic Keyboards wired and that works, though not one with Touch ID.
On no evidence, and no documentation, I’d connect a spare wired keyboard, forget the Touch ID keyboard in Bluetooth, switch off the Touch ID keyboard, and restart the Mac with the Touch ID keyboard wired.

I have an Apple B/T keyboard and am using it for this reply wired to my iMac.
You might try going into the System/Bluetooth preference pane and disconnect and forget the keyboard. Then try it wired again. Also, make sure it's turned on in the back. I keep forgetting to turn it back on.
Was suggesting the alternate keyboard and forgetting and shutting it off and restarting to get the keyboard to disassociate itself… But it may well be Touch ID is dependent on Bluetooth, not that I can locate that in the available documentation.

The wired keyboard must be flipped "on" for it to work at all, even on Linux/Windows.
It seems the design choice was made to keep it constantly on Bluetooth so it'll be uninterrupted when you unplug the cable; yet the Bluetooth is glitchy so oof.
This seems nontrivial and I might have to get really hacky to figure something out. I probably won't find answers on this site. Thank you though!
