my ex has his email address attached to some of the apps in my apple tv. He refuses to come and remove them. how can i remove those apps? Do i need to erase my entire apple tv and reinstall with my information so I can use those apps?

My ex had a user ID that we used for the Apple TV./iCloud I kept the Apple TV and the ID and changed the password so he can no longer access any cloud information. Some of the apps on the TV, streaming services, have his email sign in attached to them and I can not seem to be able to remove them from the Apple TV in order for me to utilize my own automatic sign in. Some of the apps even are requesting his password so that they can be updated. He refuses to come and assist on deleting the apps. Do i need to wipe clean the apple tv and start fresh by downloading all my apps again? Thanks for your help

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 16

  • You can delete and re-install the apps that the other user had installed on their account. With re-installing, the new apps would now be linked to the currently active account.
  • Else you are advised to reset the device to factory settings, and set it up again “as new”. Note down the apps you want to re-install before resetting.

Who is the device registered to? If you don't actually have the device's ownership e-mail and password, that will be a problem. You need to contact Apple support as don't think you can factory reset without that. It's Apple security I guess to stop theft.

If it is your device, you are the only owner and it's just a secondary account w/ some apps, and you can't delete them - may just want to try a factory reset and start over. Your content is all saved but theirs won't be. You will need to actually re-purchase ANY apps that are under their account if you want them again.
