Both my Mac Mail app and my iCould account stopped working today. Worse, even all my old emails are missing in the app. iCloud just says error connecting but nothing more.
Can you log in on icloud.com? I'm having trouble with iCloud myself – not receiving email on any device. And icloud.com says:
I just spoke to Apple Support; they say my account is affected by some sort of server maintenance which may take up to 12 hours to complete.
Apple was down about 5 hours for me, but they never listed it on their outage webpage. I wish they would just be straight, there was no reason to hide it.
Working again now.
Indeed. Even if the outage only affected some users, it should have been listed.
