Misleading 7-Day Complimentary AppleCare+

Will report this to ACCC!

Purchased iPad Air 5 on 6Oct22, product shipped from China on 12Oct22 and straight away received an email from Apple saying the 7-Day Complimentary AppleCare+ will expiry on 18Oct22.

Finally received the iPad on 18Oct22 afternoon so basically the 7-Day Complimentary AppleCare+ was for half a day.

Tried to speak to Apple a few times about this but no one cared to get back!

Disgusting practice as Apple have the 7-Day Complimentary AppleCare+ as a selling point but in reality it never was 7 days so completely misleading and they aren’t doing anything about it!! Outrageous!

Please verify the dates by using the status checking tools Apple provides.

Check your support coverage using the iPad at System > General > About

Scroll down a little until you see the label such as Limited Warranty, though for an AppleCare plan this might be called AppleCare. This will be found under the first box of information. It should state your free AppleCare status and end date. This date should be a week after you activated the iPad by signing in to your iCloud account.

You can also check the same status online at any time at Check Your Service and Support Coverage - Apple Support

Apple has more information at the page Find information about your warranty or AppleCare plan – Apple Support (AU)

In Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support the number for Apple Support Australia is 1300 321 456 if you need to call them. Is this the number you called? On the few occasions I've had to call them I've always found the crew there very helpful.

I bought a MacBook Pro about a year ago and I wrote this User Tip on how the one week free AppleCare+ worked, and how I migrated to the purchased plan.

Lastly, if your iPad doesn't already have it loaded, you might find it useful to download the Apple Support app.

Thanks David. I think you deserve to work at Apple more than everyone I’ve spoken to at Apple about this issue. Wasted over 2 hours speaking and messaging four different people over two days and all I got was frustration! Shame on Apple not being able to tell me such a simple thing and the misleading email I got on the expiration date was pretty hopeless as well.
