Hi zx273,
Looks like we found the information you were looking for in the iPhone User Guide:
Listen to lossless music on iPhone - Apple Support
Lossless compression is a form of compression that preserves all of the original data. Apple has developed its own lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC).
The entire Apple Music catalog is encoded using ALAC in resolutions ranging from 16-bit/44.1 kHz (CD Quality) up to 24-bit/192 kHz.
Cheers!
Thanks green500,
In apple music's description, i see some detail about Lossless and Hi-Res Lossless.
About lossless audio in Apple Music
but i'm confused about the definiton, so i want to know, a audio lossless which is 16-bit/96 kHz, , does it belong to Hi-Res Lossless? Or Hi-Res Lossless format must be 24-bit?
Some similar question, 16-bit/88 kHz belong to Hi-Res Lossless?
Hello zx273,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
We are unsure about the format you provided but the audio file you mentioned may be audio lossless.Based on the article that brought you to us, it shows that sample rates up to 96 kHz supports native playback on the 14-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro. One your iPhone, you will need an external digital to analog converter for sample rates higher than 48 kHz.
Let us know if you have further questions.
Take care.
