How donI recover a deleted imessage thread? I am not seeing “show recently deleted” in the drop down when I tap edit in messages. I am using iOs 16.1. Don’t care how it gets done, I just need to get the thread back! No, I didn’t back up the phone…
That is because you deleted them prior to updating to iOS 16. If the thread is in your backup and you have not turned on iCloud Messages you can restore from that backup. You will lose any data added since the date/time of that backup.

Ok - I get it. It does show up when Indeleted another thread I didn’t need.
Which leads me to ask - is there a way to recover them. I seem to recall doing it about 8 years ago with some third party software.

If you have been regularly backing up to your computer and have a Mac depending on which OS your are running it will be tied to iTunes or Finder. For a PC it will be tied to iTunes. If you are backing up to iCloud it will be in your iCloud account. If you have not been backing up they are gone.

Unfortunately no. However, the option to show recently deleted messages is not showing up.
If you were not running iOS 16 when you deleted the message, there isn’t going to be an option to recover the message. It will work for you going forward but it’s not retroactive.
You can try what I already suggested or get the application iMazing for your computer and get them from your backup file.

I recently deleted a text thread and read about how to recover the thread by tapping edit in messages then show recently deleted. I do not see “show recently deleted”, only “select messages” “edit pins” and “edit name and photo ios 16.1 installed
