Ipod classic 5th generation

My Ipod has been sitting for a couple of years. I go to turn it on, I get an Apple logo then a white screen with apple.com/support/ipod, then it starts clicking like a clock. Then goes back to "Please wait Very low battery" It's been plugged in over night. Could that clicking noise be a hard drive? I didn't think ipods had any moving parts.

The iPod classic line uses very small spinning disks. The hard drive has probably failed. See If you see a red X icon on your iPod classic or iPod nano (5th generation or earlier) - Apple Support (archived copy). You could consider swapping out the drive with some form of SD adaptor kit.
