I just turned on my MacBook Air for the first time in months. Google is no longer my default web app. It seems I cannot change it back since Safari is my only option in the systems preference drop down menu. Can you advise on how to rectify?

"Google" is not the name of any browser application I know of. That may be one reason why you can't find it. If you want a browser made by Google, download Chrome.
Most browsers let you select them as the preferred browser. It should be able to be done in Google's Preferences. Check there.
