How do i update security settings in ventura 13.0?

Hi,

I just installed Ventura 13.0. When trying to launch a software, the system is blocking an oracle extension. With the help article based on older mac systems, it asks me to go to "security & privacy", general tab, and click on allow (for the oracle) extension.

For Ventura 13.0, "security & privacy" has changed. Where do i go now? And what do i need to do?

Thank you.

Go to System Settings->Privacy & Security, and under the Security section there should be a notice of whatever was blocked. Yo should be able to unblock it from there.

System and kernel extensions in macOS - Apple Support (CA)

Excerpt from above link

In macOS 11 or later, if third-party kernel extensions (kexts) are enabled, they can’t be loaded into the kernel on demand. They require the user’s approval and restarting of the macOS to load the changes into the kernel, and they also require that the secure boot be configured to Reduced Security on a Mac with Apple silicon.

Hey All
With the latest/current software for Mac users...Ventura 13.0. For the all important Firewall, this is no longer in Security. This is found in Network. So follow these steps to make sure the Firewall is switched on the Mac:

Stay safe at all times with the network.

That doesn't make you safe. You obviously have no idea what a Firewall does or how to secure your local network.

If there was anything to block by the application firewall in macOS, your local network is hopelessly compromised.

I'm trying to play Bluestacks games on my iMac, on which I recently installed OS 13.0 Ventura. On starting the game now, I'm asked to accept extensions in System Settings. However in the System Settings > Security section, I see only 2 choices for "Allow applications downloaded from":

  1. App Store
  2. App Store and identified developers

In previous OS versions, an extra option to "Allow" or "open anyway" would appear if the app I want to run does not meet these requirement. But with Ventura this extra option doesn't appear.

How do I solve this problem?

Yes I am fully aware of the intention of a Firewall. Given organisations may adopt Microsoft with Azure have security recommendations for installing virtual firewalls.

I have no idea why you would use that to support your understanding of a firewall’s purpose.

Removing and reducing risk, blocking unwanted IP addresses and traffic for one.

The application firewall in macOS does none of that. If you’ve let any of that into your LAN, you have already failed and the application firewall won’t be of any help.

If you have opened your LAN to the world, you should configure the packet filter (pf).

The only Utility the app firewall has is if you must enable multiple Sharing services and you regularly connect to a public network. It is then easier to turn on the app firewall than to turn off the many sharing services.
