change how senders names show on message screen on Mac - used to be name, now it's just initials

The sender's name in the Messages app pulls from your Contacts app. If you'd like the name to appear, make sure your Contacts app is up-to-date. See Add people and companies to Contacts on Mac

Messages will also only show the initials for your contacts if the window is resized and made to be too small. You can try resizing the window by dragging the edge of the Messages app window.
