I have two Mac book pros. both have their own passwords. the Apple ID sign email address is the same for both. for my older MacBook Pro when I enter my password for the Apple ID sign in, it is denied.

should I use the same password for the Apple ID on both of my Macs?

You should use the same password for the same Apple ID on both Macs. An Apple ID can only have one password.

Eric Root's instruction is very helpful to use only one password for both of MacBook pros. Apple alert specified that a notification was sent to my 13 inch MacBook Pro to change the password. Since my Apple ID and existing password work for my 13 inch MacBook Pro. do I use that password for my 16 inch MacBook Pro or do I select a different password to use for each of them? Thank you for your instructions.
