If you don't subscribe to Apple Music or iTunes Match, you won't see an option to turn on Sync Library. Sync library should be available to sync music across devices. This won’t however address downloading content, this is per device. See: Use Sync Library to access your music library across your devices - Apple Support

If sync library is not showing up on your iPhone in settings - music, make sure you are signed into your iCloud account. Hopefully you’re using the same Apple ID for everything. If not, this might be causing the conflict. Otherwise the only way to fix this might be to unpair your watch then set it all up again. Up to you to decide if that’s worth trying.

I’m thinking it might be with the internet connection lagging. So possibly it is loading but being slow and you think it’s not there? Since WatchOS 9.1 or iOS 16.1, my watch and iPhone are out of sync. It eventually does sync but takes a few minutes, whereas it used to be instantly. I’ve restarted both devices and next I’m about to try rebooting my wifi because many of my devices are now slow. I will also try resetting network settings on the iPhone following that - resetting the network on my phone will only address the phone connectivity though.

You should also try resetting network settings:

on your iPhone: In Settings > General > Transfer or Reset> Reset > Reset Network Settings. Join wifi again after it restarts This doesn’t affect data, it just fixes any network glitches on the line.

In the meantime I’ll see if I can call on someone else to help you out.

Thank you for responding. Essentially, this is an issue that only appeared after upgrading to iOS 16.1 and then watch OS 9.1. Before that I could add and delete music using the iPhone’s Apple Watch app.

I checked storage and on a 32 gig watch, I had 1.65 gigs of music, so well below the limit. I have also force closed and restarted the Watch app and restarted the iPhone, with no change. I was still getting the never ending loop of an album being uploaded to the watch.

Finally, I went to the Watch’s music app and painstakingly removed every album that had been downloaded, one by one. At this point, the iPhone watch app no longer showed an album trying to load in a loop. Partial success! However, there are several playlists with multiple albums on each that I can not remove using the method you first suggested. Each time I select the … three dots, I get the following message.

However, I get no option to turn on Synch Library when I go to Settings>Music on my iPhone. At this point I just want to clear all music from the watch and start clean. Storage on the watch app now shows 897.6 mb of music on the watch. Any thoughts on how I can clear this last bit of music from the watch?

I've run into something similar to this as well: After updating to latest iOS and watchOS, when I look at Music section of the Watch app, I see no list of existing albums on the watch (despite having music already loaded) and instead an album that appears to be constantly trying to upload. This album would be the first in an alphabetical list on my phone and was never chosen to be transferred.

Swiping to delete/cancel the upload removes it but it soon reappears on its own. If I select any other albums to transfer, it appears for a brief moment, disappears from the loading animation and look as if it didn't transfer. Checking on the watch after a few moments shows that album has been transferred.

Yes, thank you, that did work, but the Watch app on the iPhone continues to not show the music that has been uploaded to the watch and keeps showing that an album is trying to load, but it does not actually load. I can swipe left on the iPhone and delete the album trying to load, but it always comes back in a minute or so. Sometimes I see and error, Trying to upload "null".

None of the other albums uploaded to the watch show in the iPhone Watch app under music as it did before I upgraded to 16.1 and 9.1.

Thank you Vancouver22. I will try all of this. Another few bits of information. My Watch 7 does not have cellular, and I generally do not use iCloud, so none of my music is stored in the cloud. Also, I did some testing today and when I go to Music in the Apple Watch app on my iPhone, it says that I have no playlists and no albums uploaded to the watch. Just to be sure, I shut the phone down and confirmed with earbuds that I do indeed have 2 multi album playlists on the watch that are active.

Thanks for sticking with this.

Thank you, I will do that. Using the watch to find downloaded albums on the watch’s music app and remove them all, one at a time, did fix the issue with an album trying to load but never finishing. Short of starting over with the watch, I am unable to remove the 3 playlists with multiple albums in each. I do appreciate your help!
