iPhone 12 camera not working after 16.1 update

After updating to 16.1, the only way to get the camera to work during a FaceTime call is to hit the share screen button. When FaceTime call is initiated the recipient only sees a black screen with my initials in the center. If I hit share screen they can see a live image of me, but minimized as part of their screen is consumed by my shared screen. If I then toggle off share screen they see a blurred out image of me with a warning icon of a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle centered on my blurred out image. The only way for us to continue the FaceTime call is for me to again share my screen. I have tried a hard restart of my phone and this has not rectified the issue. Obviously this is a bug, right? I have reported it to feedback at apple which feels like screaming into a void. Has anyone encountered the same issue with their phone after updating it? We’re you able to resolve it and, if so, how did you do it?
