Ventura installation Macbook Pro 2020 (M1)

Yesterday I installed Ventura on my other macbook (2017, Core I5) without any problems. Today I have been trying to install on my 2020 M1 Macbook Pro but every time it quits with error 702.

After looking up the error I already tried and executed:

  • Diskutility health check (no problems)
  • Install in safe mode (error 702)
  • Install after recovery to clean Monterey (error 702)

So I probably tried everything in the books that should have helped but to no avail.

The last few lines of my installationlog looks like this:

What do you mean by clean Monterey? Run First Aid on it or erase the drive?

Are you able to boot and operator from your M1 MacBook? If so here's a way to install Ventura:

1 - Download their MDS app from Twoconoes software. It's an app that's used by developer's and beta testers.

2 - launch MDS and download macOS Ventura.

3 - launch the installer and install Ventura.

If it's a work Mac then I would be very careful about upgrading right away. Check with others to see if what you have on the laptop will be compatible with Ventura.

What you can do is get an external SSD, clone your boot drive to it with Carbon Copy Cloner and upgrade to Monterey on it if you can. Then run for a bit to see if all is well .

That's how I evaluate new systems on my iMac. The least expensive way to go on that is to get a bare SSD and a SATA to USB adaptor like this:

I use a 1TB SSD which is $109 from OWC (MacSales.com).

By clean Monterey I mean that I did a reinstall (on the disk that I put through First Aid). BTW First Aid didn't find any problems.

I can boot and run my Macbook so that's no issue. So maybe I will try your solution.

However when I come to think of it. My macbook is basically a work laptop. I found that there are some JAMF profiles on it that I can't change or delete. So probably they are prohibiting the installation of Ventura until my ICT section approves it. Could this be the case?
