Can I set Spotify as the default music player on mac?

If you mean as the default player for local files, no.
If you are looking for a different player than Music/iTunes to be your default, consider QuickTime (already installed on your Mac) or VLC (available for free).

That s a great question, but I am not sure. There might be a clever way to do it from System Preferences > Keyboard, and modify the behavior of F8. However, if you normally keep Spotify open, the play/pause key will operate on Spotify.
I mean music app. When I press play/pause button on the keyboard I want my mac to open Spotify, not apple music.
