Error moving messages from Galaxy to iPhone 14

I used Move to IOS to move some 27,000 messages from a Galaxy S8 to iPhone 14. Seemingly at random, many message strings inlcude message bubbles that have an overlapping double box icon on the left and a long string on the right (one example, 2C24D64E-1840-40AA-9F49-167A6E3EFDFA.jpeg, followed by, in grey font, JPEG Image . 61 KB). If I tap the message, the double box changes to a question mark and the long string remains. Any ideas on how/if its possible to recall these messages? Thanks.

Hello Jeffery1000,

To help us better assist you, we'd like to confirm some information.

1. Just to clarify, is the issue that photos in the transferred messages don't appear, and instead show the string of text you mentioned? If so, does this happen with all photos in the transferred messages, or only certain ones?

2. Does a loading bar or loading indicator appear in Messages?

The above details will help us get a better understand of the situation.

Please also check out the details in the following link, which may help with transfer issues: Move from Android to iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you need help after the transfer

• Get help if Messages doesn't work as expected after you transfer your content.
If you don't see apps from your Android device on your new iOS device, find and download them in the App Store on your new device.
• You might find that only some content transferred and your iOS device ran out of space, or your iOS device might appear full even though the transfer didn't finish. If so, erase your iOS device and start the transfer again. Make sure that your Android content doesn't exceed the available space on your iOS device.

Thanks!

Jeffery1000,

We appreciate the follow-up. To further narrow this down, is it only happening with photos that were part of text message threads on the originating Android?

Have you tried the steps below to see if you can manually migrate content? Move content manually from your Android device to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"Photos and videos

You can use iCloud Photos to keep your photos and videos in iCloud, so you can access your library from any device, anytime you want.

To move photos and videos from your Android device to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using a computer:

  1. Connect your Android to your computer and find your photos and videos. On most devices, you can find these files in DCIM > Camera. On a Mac, install Android File Transfer, open it, then go to DCIM > Camera.
  2. Choose the photos and videos that you want to move and drag them to a folder on your computer.
  3. Disconnect your Android and connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.
  4. On a Mac with macOS Catalina, open Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes. On your computer, sync your photos to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You can find your photos and videos on your device in Photos > Albums."

Let us know how it goes. Take care.

Thanks for your reply.

#1 - Yes. All converted messages. Best I can tell (my wife has 27,000 messages) the situation is for those messages with an attached jpg and it happens to all with a jpg that were converted. No problems with new messages directly to new iPhone.

#2. No. If I hit the two squares they will immediately convert to a question mark. If I keep hitting the message, nothing else happens nor do I see any indication something is trying to happen.
