iCloud issues signing into the 12.5.6 ipod.. tried everything

So i keep getting ....

" software update required - update this ipod to the latest version of ios to sign in"

I have tried restoring .. i have tried resetting... i have tried itunes on windows and apple

I have tried DFU mode into a restore... i have tried over and over... these and it just won't let me

do icloud things... photos.. files.. imessage.. Find my .. etc etc

I was able to sign in the app store.. and facetime ..but some apps ask me to sign in for some reason and i get that message about doing a update.

FIXED-

So i thought i would give a final follow up..

I did another reset like I have done 20 times before…BUT this time I decided NOT to do the “manual setup” in the beginning like I always do on all my devices..but instead i brought my iPhone over to it..and set it up thru the instructions doing that… and I got it to work like it should.

All iCloud events and features are working like I thought they should.. .Amazing..

I figured I would share this to hopefully help anyone else that might have this issue..

Thanks for the support ..and appreciate your follow thru..

Hello cyberneil,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you have an older iPod that won't update past iOS 12.5.6, correct?

If we have that correct, this could be related to the iOS version being unsupported with a feature that you're attempting to sign in with. Since you're able to sign in with the App Store and FaceTime, this would indicate that your iPod is able to communicate with the servers to sign in, but let's see if this is due to the iOS version.

Could you let us know which apps you attempt to open, or where in Settings you see this prompt appear? In addition, review the following resource to determine if the iCloud feature isn't available with your iOS version. If you're able to see that a feature requires an updated version of iOS, this would likely be the cause of the message you see: System requirements for iCloud - Apple Support

We look forward to hearing of an update.

Take care!

Hey cyberneil,

The iPod touch 7th gen would be compatible with iOS 15. If the iPod touch 6th gen is not able to be updated to a sufficient level, it will prompt you to update the iOS version. Since that may not be possible, this specific iPod touch may no longer be able to be updated.

Please don't hesitate to let us know if you need additional assistance. You can contact Apple directly using this link: Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support

Take care.

So I have circle back around this and it seems like I should be able to sign in to the minimum requirements that are listed on the iCloud page things like iMessage find my device and a few more things I’ve never been able to just be locked up everything that has ever been an option to iCloud self. Seems like there’s something going on that doesn’t seem to be working correctly and I really am frustrated by it. Any other advice would be helpful. Thanks.
