When i launch Safari, I get Ecosia. How do I get rid of it from my Mac please?

Ecosia is one of five search engines you can select to use in a search in the address bar. To see the other options and change it use Safari Preferences > Search > Search Engine - then make your choice.
Thank you. I unchecked Ecosia, and checked Google and this has worked!
On looking for answers, lots of sites saying Ecosia is basically a bug that needs removing. Do you think it can have harmed my Mac, and is there anything else I should do>

Ecosia is an option in lots of popular browsers, and if Apple have the confidence to put the link in Safari I wouldn't be worried.
I'd be more concerned at Google than any other search engine, given that its purpose is advertising rather than helping with information, but that's another conversation.
