Unfamiliar Login Items - Allow in Background

I’ve got macOS Ventura. This evening I went on to the Login Items section, and saw the category “allow in the background” for the first time.

There are a list of items, some from ‘unidentified developers’ which I don’t know what they do, e.g. StandaloneUpdaterDaemon or OSMessageTracer. I’ve uploaded a picture.

Are these likely threats or some sort of malware / adware / concern, or not?

Any advice would be appreciated! (And I know I should uninstall Norton, but I’m too worried now!)

You should uninstall Norton using the developers instructions then restart your system and check what is still loading.

If you have Microsoft Office Suite installed the OSMessageTracer may relate to this.

If you use an app like FindAnyFile you can search for the unidentified files and the folder in which they are strored may give a clue.

Also if you are concerned about malware, download and run Malwarebytes which is trusted by members of this support group. It will reveal known malware and remove it.

Some people have seen similar. It seems entire is showing the name of the developer instead of the app or utility name.

It may be the information isn’t attached to the login item.

If you don’t know what you installed, EtreCheck can show you and identify any adware you installed.
