Orphan login item Valve Corporation

Looked everywhere /Library/LaunchAgents and LaunchDemons; ~/Library/LaunchAgents. Nothing that refers to Valve or steam... I disabled it, but I want to completely get rid of it

Any help would be appreciated!

Hey guys... finally figured it out... the culprit was AmbrosiaAudioSupport.kext. Here is the progression:

This morning I run the tool and this is whagt I saw:

 /Library/Extensions
        [Not Loaded] AmbrosiaAudioSupport.kext - com.AmbrosiaSW.AudioSupport (Valve Corporation, 4.2 - SDK 10.9)
        [Not Loaded] logi_audio_override.kext - com.logi.gaming.audio.override (Logitech Inc., 2.3 - SDK 10.13)
        [Not Loaded] SteamInput.kext - com.valvesoftware.SteamInput (Valve Corporation, 4357.73.42 - SDK 10.13)
        [Not Loaded] SteamInput-DS4v1.kext - com.valvesoftware.SteamInput-DS4v1 (Valve Corporation, 4357.73.42 - SDK 10.9)

I removed the extension. Updated the kext_policy database (btw Ambrosia and Steam had the same team_id in the DB). Didn't help. Run the tool again this afternoon and this is what I got.

Launch Daemons:
    [Loaded] com.adobe.ARMDC.Communicator.plist (Adobe Inc. - installed 2022-10-21)
    [Loaded] com.adobe.ARMDC.SMJobBlessHelper.plist (Adobe Inc. - installed 2022-10-21)
    [Not Loaded] com.ambrosiasw.ambrosiaaudiosupporthelper.daemon.plist (Not signed - installed 2019-04-24)

That gave me the idea to check at LaunchDemons about that daemon. So I removed com.ambrosiasw.ambrosiaaudiosupporthelper.daemon.plist and restarted. Once restarted I don't see the line in the Login Items anymore.

Thanks a lot! This is a great tool!

You can check to see if you've removed all of the supporting files by downloading and running the shareware app Find Any File to search for any files with the application's or the developer's name in the file name.  For the Valve software you'd do the following search(es):

1 - Name contains valve

Any files that are found can be dragged from the search results window to the Desktop or Trash bin in the Dock for deletion.

FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't like invisible folders, system folders and packages.

This is very weird...

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

Hey, thanks a lot! That helped to identify a couple of disabled kernel extensions that I managed to get rid of. It is a bit tricky since you have to remove the entries from the kext_policy database.

I run the tool again and in the EtreCheck report, I don't see any other reference to that.

under valve, it didn't find anything. Actually, it found one jpg from the Safari...

I also searched for steam, which brought a few .rb files but those are in the brew/cask folder. So nothing really relevant. In fact, I opened one of the files (steam.rb) and went to check these folders. They didn't have any of the files specified.:

zap trash: [
    "~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.valvesoftware.steamclean.plist",
    "~/Library/Preferences/com.valvesoftware.steam.helper.plist",
    "~/Library/Application Support/Steam/",
    "~/Library/Saved Application State/com.valvesoftware.steam.savedState/",
  ]
