Speakers crackling

Hello, I've recently got a used iPhone 11 of a friend of mine. When I have set it up, I have noticed there is really strong crackling on the speakers, both playing music and speaking on a call. I've updated the iOS to 16 and nothing really changed - it still is horrible. The issue was not present before, when my friend was using the phone. The sound is way quieter than it should be, compared to another iphone 11 and speakers are really crackling. I've checked that the issue concerns both speakers by switching audio from left to right speakers in Accessibility settings. At the same time, when I have used bluetooth headphones, audio was working correctly.

I've tried many solutions, including: cleaning the phone, soft and hard resets, resetting the settings, turning bluetooth off, erasing the phone and setting once again, updating the software.s it concerns both speakers I believe it rather has to do with the software, but I have installed the updates and the issue is still present.

What might be the cause? What else could I try to do to fix it?

Greetings Kajetan20,

You've completed some great troubleshooting steps. You mentioned that you believe the issue could be software related. To clarify, when you erased your device, was this done in the Settings app? Also, did you set up your iPhone 11 as new or was it restored from the backup?

To thoroughly isolate the issue to the software, its best to restore the device to factory settings, using a computer. This process allows for the software to be extracted, and a fresh copy of the software is restored on the device. Also, setting the device up as new, allows you to determine if the issue could be stored in the backup.

"Restore your device to factory settings

  1. On a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or on a PC, open iTunes. Find out which macOS your Mac is using.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. If a message asks for your device passcode or to Trust This Computer, follow the onscreen steps. Get help if you forgot your passcode
  4. Select your device when it appears on your computer. Learn what to do if your iPhoneiPad, or iPod touch is unresponsive or won't turn on. Or get help if your device doesn't appear on your computer.
  5. Click Restore [device]. If you're signed into Find My, you need to sign out before you can click Restore.
  6. Click Restore again to confirm. Your computer erases your device and installs the latest iOS, iPadOS, or iPod software.
  7. After your device restores to factory settings, it restarts. Now you can set it up as new."

If you have completed these steps and the issue persists, then the issue may be related to the hardware. In that case, you would need to reach out to Apple for further assistance. You may be able to connect with them here: Get Support

We hope this help.

Take care.
