Location services on iPad Pro M1 stopped working after update to iPad OS 16.1

No app can access location. Google maps says “Location could not be determined”. I tried almost everything to address the problem, including reseting Location & Privacy and reseting Network Settings. The only hope is to factory data reset the whole device, which I haven’t tried yet. Does anybody experience the same problem?

WiFi-only iPads have no GPS chip. They get their location solely from WiFi. So, make sure that WiFi is turned on. It doesn't have to be connected to a specific network, just enabled.

No, this is WiFi only version. I also own my old buddy iPad Air 2 (WiFi) on iOS 15 and it has no issues with the Location Services, works as expected.

For now I’m waiting for 16.2 update in hope it will fix the problem, and if not l’ll consider the factory reset option.

Btw, at some random moments Location Services on iPad Pro did worked, but for a short period of time. Weather widget was able to get my location, Maps also worked, but after an hour out of the blue it stopped working again. I had a telephone call with Apple Support and the only options they provided 1) wait 16.2; 2) factory reset.

Hello Roman_Turovskyy,

To resolve this issue, try resetting your iPhone's settings to their defaults. This can help incase there is another setting that may be causing the issue: Return iPhone settings to their defaults - Apple Support

If you want to save your settings, back up iPhone before returning them to their defaults. For example, if you’re trying to solve a problem but returning settings to their defaults doesn’t help, you might want to restore your previous settings from a backup.

1. Go to Settings  > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset.
2. Choose an option:
WARNING: If you choose the Erase All Content and Settings option, all of your content is removed. See Erase iPhone.
Reset All Settings: All settings—including network settings, the keyboard dictionary, location settings, privacy settings, and Apple Pay cards—are removed or reset to their defaults. No data or media are deleted.

Best Regards.
