What?!?? That made absolutely no sense. “On the Home Screen press and hold until screen changes. Press Customise then new then back out by pressing X” ??

I pressed and held on the Home Screen and all that happened was the icons started shaking. There was no button or link called Customise ever seen. Please clarify.

Hi Knowthums,

Do you still have access to the photo used for your wallpaper? If so, for help with changing your wallpaper on iOS 16, test the steps below found in the article here: Change the wallpaper on your iPhone - Apple Support

"Add a new wallpaper for your Lock Screen or Home Screen

  1. In the Settings app, tap Wallpaper.
  2. Tap Add New Wallpaper.
  3. Tap Photos, People, or Photo Shuffle to choose your own photo. You can also select a wallpaper from a category like Weather & Astronomy, Emoji, Collections, or Color.
  4. The options to add a new wallpaper in iOS 16.
  5. If you want, you can customize your wallpaper further. Then tap Add."

You can also find helpful information here: Change the wallpaper on iPhone - Apple Support and here: If you're missing photos or videos in the Photos app - Apple Support

Cheers.

Okay. “Lock Screen” definitely makes a lot more sense. Thank you for figuring that out and sharing. The path mostly worked but it didn’t give me an “X” at the end for backing out; I wound up having to just swipe it away to get out of the customisation screen. Since my post this morning, I executed a forced update to v16.2. Hopefully Apple is reading these forums and others, discovered this is a widespread problem, and finally fixed it. Thank you again.

The only solution I’ve found to date is to turn the phone off and on again. However, it’s a temporary fix as the problem recurs for no apparent reason. I’m hoping this is a bug from the latest iOS release and will be fixed in the next one.

Just got my iPhone 13 yesterday. It was updated to the latest IOS in the shop.

Disappointed to find this problem and even more disappointed to see it's been around all November!

I've already tried everything suggested here without success.

I hope the fix will arrive very soon.

I just updated yesterday from iPhone 12 Pro to iPhone 14 Pro Max. I didn't have this problem at all on the 12.

Now I get this issue. It can be resolved by restarting the phone, but eventually the wallpaper will disappear again. Done this about 6 times now!

There does seem to be other websites showing this as a known issue, although 16.1.2 (which both my phones have/had) has not fixed it - only seems to affect my newer iPhone 14 Pro max for some reason. Maybe 16.2 will fix.....

Mine has been very strange recently. When it first started, rebooting usually fixed it. Then a few days back even that didn't fix it. So I let it.

Then noticed earlier today. my wallpaper has come back again all on its own! (16.2 is ready to install but hasn't been as of now)

No luck, it came back after a few days after installing the 16.1.1 update. I had hoped the update to 16.2 would take care of it. And it did… for a couple of days.

The wallpaper disappeared again today.

C’mon Apple, let us know what’s up. You do read these, right?

My 2 iphones are on 16.2 since 16.2 was available, and one started having this problem 2 weeks ago, and the other one started today. Restarting phones brings back the wallpaper, but it would randomly disappear for no reason. These wallpapers were set up from iphones 2 generations ago, and it has migrated without a problem until now. I hope a permeant solution will be in the next update. We pay a lot for these phones and should not rely on workarounds for fixes.
