Wallpaper disappearance

…well, it was too good to be true. The disappearing wallpaper bug has reappeared in 16.1.1.

Mine has been very strange recently. When it first started, rebooting usually fixed it. Then a few days back even that didn't fix it. So I let it.

Then noticed earlier today. my wallpaper has come back again all on its own! (16.2 is ready to install but hasn't been as of now)

My disappearing wallpaper issue persisted for a while. After one of the OS updates (I think 16.0) occurred, the problem vanished. I do change my wallpaper regularly so, I’m unsure if the changing and/or OS updating was the fix. Obviously, there’s still a bug.

I'm thinking it may have to do with the wallpaper that was carried over when I converted from my iphone 6 to my 13. It worked fine for a nearly a year, so it's definitely related to an update. Incredibly frustrating that there are comments here dating back some time before 16.2. I suspect there is no one from the Apple Dev organization that looks at the support community.

Mine is still very random. Can go days fine. Then it suddenly disappears. Then it’ll come back again, without restarting my phone. Very frustrating.

I am still using the same photo I used on my previous phone (I transferred everything to new phone using the Apple tool).

I would say the wallpaper is visible more often than it’s invisible but still not good. And as a few have commented, this has been happening for months now, across several iOS updates.

Just got my iPhone 13 yesterday. It was updated to the latest IOS in the shop.

Disappointed to find this problem and even more disappointed to see it's been around all November!

I've already tried everything suggested here without success.

I hope the fix will arrive very soon.

Anche io ho riscontrato lo stesso problema dopo aver aggiornato ad IOS 16.1.1. Lo sfondo scompare e diventa nero, se riavvio il telefono lo sfondo ritorna ma momentaneamente. Appena faccio altro e poi ritorno nella schermata home ecco che lo sfondo è nuovamente ritornato nero.

Spero si risolva il prima possibile

What?!?? That made absolutely no sense. “On the Home Screen press and hold until screen changes. Press Customise then new then back out by pressing X” ??

I pressed and held on the Home Screen and all that happened was the icons started shaking. There was no button or link called Customise ever seen. Please clarify.

Good and bad news - the confusion I think is that they meant on the lock screen, not the home screen. The bad news is I tried it on the lock screen and while the path is there, it didn't fix it for me.

Okay. “Lock Screen” definitely makes a lot more sense. Thank you for figuring that out and sharing. The path mostly worked but it didn’t give me an “X” at the end for backing out; I wound up having to just swipe it away to get out of the customisation screen. Since my post this morning, I executed a forced update to v16.2. Hopefully Apple is reading these forums and others, discovered this is a widespread problem, and finally fixed it. Thank you again.

No luck, it came back after a few days after installing the 16.1.1 update. I had hoped the update to 16.2 would take care of it. And it did… for a couple of days.

The wallpaper disappeared again today.

C’mon Apple, let us know what’s up. You do read these, right?

I have iPhone 13 Pro Max. I’ve been experiencing the lock screen & wallpaper problem for too long. Until today I was able to eventually get my 2 pictures back but today it’s just allowing me to use 1 picture for both. Hope my terminology is correct.

My photo of my dear departed dogs got so zoomed in I only see one of my two dog’s nose on my wallpaper. The original photo is nowhere on my phone. Now I have to find the original in a box hopefully!

Horrible! Feel terrible for others that lost a precious photo. Worst update! Hate the new wallpaper settings!

I recently downloaded the updated iOS version to my iPhone XR yesterday and the inner Wallpaper keeps disappearing and after I turn on and off my iPhone it suddenly appears but only a few seconds at a time?!? Sometimes I think I should’ve downloaded the new update thing because it messed up my wallpaper on my phone?!?
