Is there anything I need to do before upgrading from Catalina 10.15.7 to hightest compatible upgrade. What is the highest?

The model year of a MacBook Pro is available at Apple menu > About This Mac.

A mid 2012 through early 2013 MacBook Pro can be upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7 but no later. See: How to download macOS - Apple Support

A late 2013 and mid 2014 can be upgraded to the latest version of Big Sur macOS 11 but no later. See:How to download macOS - Apple Support

Thanks so much for your help. Should I clear Cache first, as it said on my computer and it recommended "CleanMyMac X" to download for free, but I would like an expert like you to help me know if I should do that, as I don't know about clearing cache. I am backing up my laptop to time capsule now.

Thank you. Are there any issues with upgrading from Catalina 10/15.7 directly to Ventura, or would it be better to go to Monterey first?

There shouldn't be any issue going directly to Ventura. As always and as indicated in the instructions, you should have a backup.

I wouldn't let Clean My Mac (or any other 3rd party "cleaning" app) anywhere near my Mac. Clearing caches is not something that is normally ever needed.
