Network Storage

I have a WD Elements external HDD plugged into my netgear router. Before doing this I directly plugged it into the MAC and formatted it in exFAT and named it. I go to Finder/GO/Connect to server. I enter the address "smb://theipaddress/name of HDD. It tells my I am attempting to connect to the server. I click connect. It is checked registered user and asks for a name and password. I have zero clue what it is talking about. I don't have any setup. It doesn't work if I select guest either. I tried the user name and password for the computer but no luck.
