When typing using my iPad or phone after the first couple of lines the text just totally disappears literally before my eyes, then have to start the whole thing over again. I have already switched devices off and on and checked accesibility as recommended in another post with similar problem but no luck so far. I updated to IOS15:7:1 on phone and iPad is already running that . Any advice appreciated . Seems fine on laptop.

If the issue is with just specific websites, the issue will be with the website - and not with the iPad. If you have recently updated your iPad and/or iPhone to iOS/iPadOS 15.7.1 or 16.1, this may be a contributory factor.
Since release of these updates, there appear to be some websites (in particular e-commerce) that are incompatible, or are at best temperamental, with Apple WebKit - upon which iPad and iPhone web browser rely.
Until the websites themselves are updated, it may be necessary to use a different browser or device to access them.

Thank you for your quick response. It seems to be on one particular website , and happens with both iPad and phone. Not when using laptop , at least not yet. Interestingly I’m typing this reply to you on iPad and by now that would have totally disappeared . Very strange .
You are welcome. While I cannot provide an immediate fix via iPad settings, I hope this explanation provides useful insight as to the probable cause.
Perhaps take some solace from knowing that where successful transactions are impacting e-commerce, website developers will be relatively quick to update their sites. Nothing focusses business activity more that lost revenue; a customer that cannot spend money will go elsewhere 🙂
