apple remote not always working with sling tv, will either make sling app freeze or skip channels, or go to wrong screen, like from guide to home instead of search

problems with apple remote not working properly with sling tv app, it may freeze or it may skip channels or bring up a different screen than wanted like guide it may go to a home screen, this only happens with sling.

Thanks for connecting with us here in Apple Support Communities. As we understand it, you're only having an issue with the Sling app on your Apple TV. For this reason, we'd recommend that you delete the app and reinstall it to see if the issue persists. See: Apple TV User Guide


1. Select the app you want to delete, then press and hold the clickpad center (second-generation Siri Remote) or touch surface (first-generation Siri Remote) until the app starts to jiggle.
2. Press the Play/Pause button for more options, then choose Delete.
3. Deleting an app also deletes its data. You can download any app again that you’ve purchased on the App Store, free of charge, but the data may not be restored.

Hey dsullivan6,


Thanks for clarifying. Since the Sling app is freezing on two different Apple devices, and you said it only happens with the Sling app, it seems isolated to the Sling app.


Make sure the Apple TV is updated to the latest available version.

One thing you can try is to reset the Apple TV and see if the issue persists.

You may need to contact the app developer, and ensure that app is updated too.
