Only getting notifications sometimes

My Apple Watch Series 7 has stopped giving me audio notifications for incoming texts since the last update but only randomly. Sometimes they come through, sometimes they don’t. The texts always show on the watch, I’m just not being alerted. I thought it was related to my watch and being a little loose so I switched to a tighter one but that didn’t fix it. I have verified that my settings are all as they should be (I didn’t change anything prior to this starting).

Hi Mingoslkd -

The text notifications are the only ones I’ve noticed as I have most other notifications set for just haptic. Do not disturb is not enabled. I have restarted both devices in various orders (phone then watch, watch then phone, both simultaneously). I know I will not get notifications on both devices. I’m only expecting it on my watch. I will hear nothing and have no haptic notification either but randomly look at my watch and see I have at least 1 unread text.

Hey AimeeMM1979,

Thanks for the update. Since you mentioned it happens randomly, it may be isolated to a particular contact. It may be that a conversation is muted.

Are you not receiving text notifications from one contact or all text messages?

  1. "Open Messages.
  2. Swipe left over the conversation that you want to mute.
  3. Tap the Alerts button .

When Hide Alerts is on, the Alerts button  appears next to the conversation."

Hi AimeeMM1979,

We see you're posting from the Change the audio and notification settings on your Apple Watch resource. Is this only happening with text notifications? Are others coming through without an issue? Have you also made sure that Do Not Disturb isn't enabled? This can stop you from getting those notifications as well. Have you tried restarting both the watch and iPhone? This can sometimes resolve minor software issues.

Also, keep in mind that you'll get a notification on your iPhone or Apple Watch, but not both. This page has this information for you: Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

We look forward to hearing back from you so we can get a better understanding of things.

Take care.
