Applying Camera LUT to clip in timeline changing applied LUT to previous clips

I'm getting inconstancies trying to apply a camera LUT to clips in the timeline. Sometimes it'll affect the previous clip or two, other times not depending where they are in the timeline; meaning I can repeat the effect each time with that particular clip. Apply Canon Log 3 to one clip, next clip apply Canon Log and now the previous clip changes along with it to Canon Log. I don't have both clips selected, only the one. What am I doing wrong???

Right. Those are the same file. Apply to one gets applied to all instances where the file is used. If you have the LUT or can get it you could use the Custom LUT effect to apply it to a single instance of the clip.

Ah... think the problem is I've created a secondary storyline (grey frame, xx76), that's keeping the LUT applied to that regardless of changing LUTs to the other clips in the main storyline. I'm assuming when applying LUTS via the Inspector, it affects all the clips in the storyline and to apply them individually to a clip, best to use Effects>Custom LUT?

Noticed that the clips that aren't affected by changing LUTS have a dark grey bar that extends over the entire length of them....can't remember what I did but remembering doing something to them at a feeble attempt of stabbing in the dark. I so rarely edit in FCPX that when I do, it's a learning curve all over again.
