Also, it is possible you accidentally damaged something during the repair since the cables & connectors are extremely delicate and easily damaged. Did you disconnect the battery before working on the laptop? If not, then you may have damaged the screen and/or Logic Board when connecting/disconnecting the display cable.
If the original part also had a black screen, then it likely indicates the screen is not the problem.
If you have a USB-C laptop, then there is a possibility another screen won't work without having the parts properly paired (I don't recall if this is the case for a MBAir 2018+ model....not an issue for the 2017 and earlier models).
Try disconnecting the battery from the Logic Board and using just the charger to power on the laptop. Sometimes a battery issue can prevent an Apple laptop from powering on.
