Duplicate Photos on iPhone and Windows File Explorer

Hi all,

When I open This PC / Apple iPhone / Internal Storage / DCIM / date I get duplicate .jpg files

I get:

IMG_7770.JPG and IMG_E7770.JPG.

These files are often 2mb each sometimes 3mb. This adds up over time.

I also get .AAE files that I can't delete. These are 1kb, so I'm not concerned about file size there.

How do I prevent my iPhone from creating these duplicates?

dozens of folders created on Iphone 16 pro frankstar99 wrote below in April 2024 I take a lot of photos with my iPhone 14 pro. In internal storage, there are dozens of folders with names like, 202301_, 202312_a, 202312_b, etc... I can copy the photos to my p.c., but I can't get rid of these folders. And some of the pictures get duplicated on the phone storage in 2 different adjacent folders. It didn't always work like this and my previous iPhones didn't make so many random folders for photos. Why is it doing this, and how can I get rid of all these folders once I empty them of the photos? I have exactlythe same issue on iphone 16....it is not a problem on my phone, but when i want to save to my hard drive itis a real pain to have to open each folder to then copy and paste into a file. It used to be a problem when i took a lot of pics in one month...but it seems to be getting worse. How can I stop this? For december 2024 it has been split into 28 folders...some with one or 2 pics...some with a lot more

Missing Duplicates folder I just switched to ios 16 and i DO have duplicate photos but im missing a duplicate photos folder, anyone else? How can I fix this?

I don't know that you can. What you can do is Transfer photos and videos from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your Mac or PC - Apple Support and then thin out duplicates or older content on the phone after you've saved the originals.
