What do you dispose of an old MacBook Pro that died

My 2009 Mackbook Pro finally died. I did buy a new Mac Air, but now don’t know what to do with the old one.. do I take it apart and take out the hard drive?? Can I take it to Apple store and have them do something to it so no information is able to be pulled from it by some genius hacker? Any help is appreciated.

Apple will accept it for recycling, and will ensure the information on the hard disk drive is destroyed.
