Yes,

with all AirPods, you are able to use both of them at the same time, or just one of them. After you pair your AirPods with your apple device, you will be able to use both of your AirPods or just one of them (it doesn't matter whether you use just the right AirPod, or just the left AirPod, both ways will still work). If you have AirPods Pro or AirPods Max, you can turn on Transparency Mode which allows you to listen to your surroundings without interrupting your music or current activity.


Switch between Noise Cancellation and Transparency mode - Apple Support
