Move documents to Slack from iCloud Drive

Hi. I recently upgraded my Mac and noticed it's saving everything to the iCloud Drive. I collaborate with people on Slack remotely. People are unable to open the files I upload. I create my files in MS Word for Mac. Can these files not be uploaded because they're in the Cloud? If this is the case, how can I bypass the Cloud and save the files on my hard drive? I tried unchecking the box next to Desktop and Documents in the iCloud settings, but it said it would delete everything from my hard drive. Please help! Thank you.

Mac mini, macOS 12.4

Hey Jill Christiansen,

We'll be happy to help with sharing documents. For the documents in iCloud Drive, make sure you're using these steps to share the files: Use iCloud to share and collaborate on files and folders - Apple Support.

You mentioned when turning off Desktop and Documents is causing an issue. Just to confirm, are these the settings you turned off? Add your Desktop and Documents files to iCloud Drive - Apple Support. The resource explains what to expect when you turn this off. If you are seeing a message about documents being deleted from the hard drive, please let us know the exact wording of the entire message.
