Airport Express Gen2 on network for short time

Hi All,

I have had a little lurk on the community and it looks like this issue has been reported previously. I suspect it is not an issue with the Airport Express itself, but my network.

Background - I recently picked up an Airport Express Gen2 its purpose is to act as an Airplay head for an old stereo system I have.

Issue - While it is configured and works for a brief time, for its intended purpose. The device drops from the network within 10 mins of powering on.

The device initially connected to my 5ghz network simply fine but drop shortly after.

the device has been updated to the latest available firmware.

any advice is appreciated.

Where is the Express located in relation to your "main" router? How many walls or other obstructions in the signal path between the Express and the main router?

As a test, move the Express to the same room as your "main" router for a few hours and watch to see if the connection drops.

You can simulate "speakers" on the Express by simply plugging in a pair of headphones into the audio port.

5 GHz signals are "faster" than 2.4 GHz signals, but they are also significantly weaker. Try connecting the Express to 2.4 GHz signals if possible, especially if the Express is located a few rooms away from the main router.
