airpod pro 2 static

I have a pair of AirPod pro 2s. Whenever I use compressed air in my shop I get a read bad static feedback and crackling sound in my headphones. If I do the same thing but wear my AirPod pro 1st gen they do not make the static noise. Curious why the 1st gen works but the 2nd gen are making the noise. Defeating the purpose of noise cancelling.

I have the exact same problem! when I use compressed air in my shop, I get a horrible static/crackling noise while my AirPod Pro 2’s are in noise canceling or transparency mode. They are on the most recent firmware and I’ve reset them several times to no avail. This is pretty disappointing since my 1st generation AirPod Pros don’t have this problem. I feel like I downgraded.

I’m experiencing the same issue. I work in a factory and the air hose causes a nasty crackling noise when noise cancellation is on or transparency mode is on. I forgot my AirPod pro 2 one day and used the old 1 gen AirPod pro and didn’t have any static. Not very happy about it.

I bought my AirPods Pro 2 and the day after I bought them it started to have the issue, but only in the right AirPod and when it happens the left one gets significantly quieter. I also worked around compressed air (but not to the level of some of the others in the thread) and so I’m wondering if that has Anything to do with it? I doubt it though because I’m having the issue no matter where I am. In my house, a train, a car, and it scares the **** out of me while also hurting my ears like crazy. I have tinnitus so when this happens my ears ring like crazy, I have AppleCare so I’m going to take them in to apple shortly. However, looking at everyone else on this thread I’m afraid it might not help. If anyone finds a fix please let me know too, thank you 🙏

The "repair" was just them sending me a new pair of probably refurbished airpods. I still have the same issue. I have spoken with a higher up person who submitted a claim to possibly look into this issue within the firmware. If a firmware update doesn't fix the issue I kind of want a refund because to me in my workshop these are not usable.

Not only is it needed, it is the polar opposite when you are around compressed air. The first time this happened to me I was assisting in holder a 200lb aluminum plate. When the compressed air was initiated I could not remove my Airpods and had to endure the crackling noise for about 20-30 seconds. This is something that can definitely cause some hearing issues for people who may not be able to remove them right away.

Hi Engineerict21,

To help troubleshoot the behavior, let's have you follow the steps here: If your AirPods Pro (1st generation) make crackling or static sounds - Apple Support

  1. "Make sure that you have the latest software on your connected iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
  2. Check that your connected device is nearby, and there's no wireless interference or obstructions between you and your device
  3. Listen to audio from a different app to see if the app causes the issue."

To further troubleshoot, test after resetting the AirPods: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

  1. "Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case.
  4. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > Bluetooth, or Settings > [your AirPods], and tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods. If you don't see your AirPods in Settings > Bluetooth or in Settings > [your AirPods], just go to the next step.
  5. Tap Forget This Device, and tap again to confirm.
  6. With the lid open, press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*

7. Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Follow the steps on your device's screen."

If the issue persists, then reach out to Apple Support directly for assistance: Contact - Official Apple Support

Kind regards.

I have this problem too, but i had the same problem with my airpods pro gen 1 (early version) and apple made a service program regarding that problem, so after over a year i went in, and they Exchanged the airpods only, and the New ones didn’t have static Noise problems…

it seems that apple have made the same mistake again on their early gen 2, and people Will Just have to wait for apple to accept it, and make a service program for gen 2…. 😪

I’m so glad I’m not the only one. My gen 1s don’t do this, and my gen 2s do. Seems the same for everyone. I hope there’s a solution for this in the future. At this time, the best thing I can do is turn ANC/transparent off, but the noise cancelling is really needed when I’m around compressed air.

I’m glad they believe a firmware update may fix it. I hope that comes quickly. I’m wondering if it’s an issue with the new adaptive transparency feature that was introduced on the gen 2. Whatever measures ambient sound may be overwhelmed by that much air hitting it, causing feedback of some kind. I tried turning adaptive transparency off and it didn’t correct the issue though. The only way to eliminate it is to turn noise control completely off, but that means I can’t use ANC when I’m using the air all day long. No good.

Just exchanged mine with apple and the news ones have the same issue. On top of that I get crazy bad signal interference, causing a slightly different crackling noise when watching youtube or making phone calls. Strangely it's never been an issue when streaming music. Occasionally during phone calls ill get this crazy distortion that makes voices sound robotic for a lack of better term. I know it's not the call because if I hang up it continues in the OS for a second or 2.
