ITunes says iPod isn't in DFU mode.

Me and my father have found a 2nd Gen iPod and when we turn it on it has that "ITunes" screen where it needs to restore. We take it to the computer and open ITunes. When I try to restore it, it says something like "iPod was in DFU mode until it was restarted and left DFU mode. Disconnect the iPod and enter DFU again." I'm not completely sure what it said but it had no error code. So, I restart both the computer and iPod. I open ITunes again and connect the iPod to the computer, enter DFU mode and the same error pops up. I have tried this over and over again and it still wont work. Is it me or is the iPod? Please help.
