Hello mihir150,

The Apple Watch Series 3 has reached the end of it's update life, which means it will no longer run the latest software on it. The newest software version, watchOS 9 requires a Series 4 or newer to run, so the Series 3 will be stuck on watchOS 8.

watchOS 9

That being said, watchOS 8 can still pair with a device running iOS 16. As for compatibility with future updates after iOS 16, Apple just discontinued the Series 3 back in September, so it's a safe bet that it will probably work with future iOS versions for a few more years. There will most likely come a time when the watchOS 8 software is just too old to be compatible with the current iOS software that Apple releases. The Series 3 was initially released all the way back in 2017, so even today in technology standards the device is considered quite vintage.

If you're looking for a lower cost Apple Watch that you plan on keeping for a significant amount of time, you might be better off looking at the SE: Apple Watch SE Since it was just released it runs the latest software, and will be able to run future releases after watchOS 9 for the next few years.

Cheers!
