Logitech 500s presentation remote not working with Powerpoint on iPad

I just bought a Logitech 500s presentation remote for use with PowerPoint (Version 2.65) on my iPad (iPad Air 4th Gen, OS15.7). The remote is supposed to have universal compatibility. It pairs successfully, but the remote forward & back. buttons only cycle through toolbar menu options (there's no "OK" button). If I start the presentation clicking the buttons does nothing.

I've see reference to granting BT access to apps, but the PowerPoint app doesn't appear as an app having requested in Privacy/Bluetooth.

Anyone had this problem and fixed it?

iPad Air, iPadOS 15

Hi Shannon

My understanding is that the R500s should work in basic forward-back mode "out-of-the box", but the Logitech Presentation app provides additional functionality - reprogramming buttons, timer etc. I have already tried downloading the app on the iPad. The Logitech link above takes me to an R500s page, and there is a "download the software" link which then brings up an icon to download Logitech Presentation, but the icon is just an image and doesn't do anything. I thought it might be an issue with iPads now being on iPadOS; I found a "system requirements" statement referring to iOS but it didn't mention iPadOS.

I have now tried the R500s with PowerPoint on my iPhone, and it works fine in its basic mode without the presentation app. I've also looked around at a number of sites that offer download of the Presentation app, and they only refer to Windows and MacOS versions. So I think I'm a victim of Apple having moved iPads away from iOS; no presentation app for iOS, R500s has only basic functions in app-less state, and R500s not compatible with iPad/iPadOS.

Hi Globet,

Got it.

Since it works as expected on the iPhone, which iOS is on the iPhone you tested? Is it the same version as the iPadOS on the iPad? If not, can you update the iPad and then try connecting the remote again? It’s possible the iPad is running a version of iPadOS that isn’t compatible with the remote.

To update iPad: Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If updating the software on the iPad does not resolve the behavior, the next step would be to reach out to Logitech. They will have the most accurate information on their device and be able to help get everything working as expected.

Kindest regards.

Hello, Globet,

Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities.

Just to confirm, are you within 65 feet of the device running the presentation? If not, you will want to lessen the distance between you and that device as the remote will only work accurately within 65 feet.

Also, you may need to program the buttons on the remote to work the way you need them to. Based on this link, you will need to download software to do that: Logitech R500s Laser Pointer Presentation Remote

Kindest regards.

I've seen a reference to the R500s being compatible with iOS 8 and above. I keep my devices updated with latest versions, but these days iOS and iPadOS versions aren't aligned - latest iPad OS is 15.71, and iOS is 16.1.

As an alternative I have tried using iPhone as remote for iPad and opening the Powerpoint presentation in Keynote, but the iPhone and iPad won't allow pairing with each other...
