Can’t get back in to deleted group chat

Both me and my mom have logged into iCloud using a family-wide Apple ID. Recently, I decided to log into Messages using the family-wide Apple ID so I can access Messages from my iPad. My mom thought that one of my group chats was a scam chat so she deleted it from her phone (or did something else that prevented my from seeing the group chat). Now I can’t receive any messages from the group chat on neither my own phone nor my iPad.

The owner of the group chat says I’m still in the group chat and showed me proof. Unfortunately the family iCloud only has 5GB and didn’t have space for back-ups. I used a third-party software that finds deleted chats but I still couldn’t find the group chat. I asked the owner of the chat to kick me out and add me back in. It didn’t work. I then logged into Messages with my personal Apple ID and email (while still logged into iCloud using the family Apple ID). I asked the owner to add my email as a separate contact. It didn’t work (and I’ve confirmed with a separate person in the group chat that the owner added my email). Note: the owner sent a message every time he tried to add me back.

Is there any way for me to get back into the group chat? Did my mom not actually delete the group chat and actually did something else to it?

P.S.: Both mine and my mom’s iPhone were running iOS 15 when this happened.

Hello HungryIronApple,

To start, what does "family-wide Apple ID" mean? Are multiple people using the same Apple ID account? If so, that would be the first problem. An Apple ID is meant to be used by a single person. Each person should have their own Apple ID.

If this is the case, someone will need to take ownership of that Apple ID and everyone else that is using it will need to create their own.

How to create a new Apple ID

If you want to share things amongst family members you can use Apple's Family Sharing service to share items amongst your Apple ID's.

Set up Family Sharing on iPhone

Now if you're unable to receive messages from the people that were in this group chat, it sounds like when that person deleted the chat, they also added the phone numbers to their blocked contacts list which would prevent further messages from coming in from those people. You'll want to check the blocked contacts list on every device that is using the same Apple ID to see if the numbers are showing up in that list. On an iPhone this cam be found in Settings > Phone > Blocked Contacts. On an iPad this can be found in Settings > FaceTime > Blocked Contacts.

Block phone numbers, contacts, and emails on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Cheers!

Thanks for telling me about Family Share, Jaym_8, I’ll keep that in mind.

Anyways, my mom doesn’t remember blocking any individuals from the group chat. I’ve also checked her phone to make sure; the phone numbers did not appear in the list of blocked contacts. They did not appear on my phone or iPad either. I’m also able to receive messages from individuals in the group chat but not the group chat itself. My mom recalled that she pressed the “Report Junk” button, but I don’t know if that’s what caused this situation.
