How to Stop Video Screen Shot ecording

When I use video screen shot (Command 5 > Select portion of screen > Record), then start the online video (previously prepared via Safari) by pressing the space bar, the video starts but the screen shot controls disappear so I can't stop the recording. I know I should be able to click on the small dot adjacent to the select icon but I can't find it, so the selected portion of the screen remains surrounded by grey.

The only way I've found to regain control is to Restart. That results in no recording.

What am I missing?

Thanks!!

The stop button is in the top menu. It should be to the far left of your icons on the top right of the screen.
