Hearing Damage From iPhone 14 Pro Max/Lightening Headphones

My new iPhone 14 pro max arrived just a day ago and I had a really unsettling experience today. I noticed that my Apple headphones (lightening connected) would occasionally not function properly and would not let me change the volume or change songs. Each time this would happen, I would have to unplug the headphones and plug them back in again.

But things went from bad to worse when, all of a sudden and for no reason, a VERY loud, high pitched sound started coming through the headphones. I removed them as fast as I could, but the sound was so loud that I could still hear it coming through the headphones even after I removed them from my ear and had them about two feet away.

My ears now ache, feel full and muffled and I'm incredibly worried that I've damaged my hearing.

I know that there have been a lot of bugs with the 14 pros, but has anyone every experienced anything like this before? I should point out that the headphones work as expected when connected to any other phone, so I think it's safe to say it's not the headphones causing the problem.
