Will the new Apple 4K TV remote work with a Apple 4K TV (gen. 2)?
Will the new Apple 4K TV remote work (the same) with a Apple 4K TV (gen. 2) purchased in December of 2018? Is it worth the money over that generation’s remote?
Apple TV 4K, tvOS 16

Yes, the new model Siri Remote will work with earlier models Apple TV (4th generation or later) (unless Apple TV is running an ancient version tvOS).

The functionality is the same as the previous version remote. The charger port is different (USB-C vs. Lightning.)
The functionality is almost the same as the black model before that (2018). The touch surface was a bit bigger then, but not that it requires adjustment in use.
The new remote is a bit heavier (45g vs. 66 gr), giving a more robust feel. No glass that can shatter. A Mute button. More clear directional tap keys (outer ring). The newer models do not have gyro and accelerometer (mostly for gaming).

Apple TV 4K bought in 2018 will be Apple TV 4K (1st generation). Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) was introduced in May 2021.
I have both (A1962 and A2540) (out of curiosity and to benefit this forum), and I don’t mind much which one to use. Other users think the new models are a huge improvement.

Thank you. I don’t have any issues with my current 4K Remote so I’ll probably just keep using it!
I did buy my 4K TV IN 2021. The (mistakenly reported) 2018 date was when I bought my first (Hi-Def only) Apple TV.
Cheers, Gary
My mistake, I got confused. I do in fact have the initial version of the 4K Apple TV purchased in 2018. I had a HD Apple TV (gen. 3) prior to that, I likely purchased in 2010. Time flies when you’re my age!
