Watch is unusable during Wind Down time period

My model A2093 watch is up-to-date with WatchOS 9.1. I'm using Settings-> Focus->Sleep Focus ->Sleep Schedule with Wind Down set to 45 minutes and a schedule of Bedtime at 10:00 pm. At 9:15pm my watch turns off the display. If I press the crown, all I see is the time displayed in large numbers, the same display that is shown when I'm charging the watch. I can't access my normal watch face or any apps. The watch seems to be disabled until morning. I expect alerts to be silenced, but I expect the watch to still be usable.

Any idea how to fix this behavior?

Hi jva100,

If you have the Sleep Focus enabled on your Apple Watch, this may be expected behavior as that Focus will turn off the Apple Watch display and turn on Do Not Disturb when that Focus is in use.

"The Sleep Focus turns off the watch display and turns on Do Not Disturb to reduce distractions before your scheduled bedtime."

Take care.

I expect the watch face to go dark during Wind Down. However, it is a bug that I can't tap on the watch face to see the time and I can't swipe up or down on the watch face to access the watch settings or the notifications screen In contrast, when I use the Theatre Mode by swiping up on the watch face, the screen goes dark after a few seconds and I can still tap the watch face and see the time. I expect the Wind Down behavior to resemble Theatre mode. Instead, all I see when I tap the watch face is a display of the date and time in a very large font. This is the same date/time display that I see when the watch is on its Apple charging stand.

To summarize, I expect the Wind Down mode to remove distractions, but not disable ordinary functions such as showing the time.
