iOS - Google Search Window Disappears Behind Safari Address Bar

After the latest iOS update version 16.1 (20B82), when I use Safari to access Google, as soon as I tap into the search window, the search window disappears behind the Safari address bar at the top of the screen, so I can’t see what I’m typing. Seems like a bug, because it did not use to do this. Is any one else having this problem?

I think I found a fix for this. Go to Settings->Safari and scroll to the bottom where see “page zoom”. Mine shows setting for Page Zoom on “google” and seprste settings for “other websites”. Google was set to 115%, I change this to 100% and problem solved.

Note I am unsure why it showed Google as a separate option from all other sites, possibly because I was on that site when I went to settings.

I was able to pull my screen down to see, but it was a bizarre extra step that I had to use that never existed before. I turned off Java, then turned it back on because that didn't work well either rendering many websites useless. I then zoomed in to 115% and that worked. A few days later I saw a post that said Google search had been fixed, so I turned off my zoom and it's working now.

Hi whydavewhy,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. Since it sounds like this happens only in Safari and possibly only the Google website specifically, we'd recommend starting with the guidance from If Safari isn't loading websites or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. All steps there should help, but clearing website data using the steps below may be particularly helpful if this is related to the website itself.

Clear website data
You can clear website data occasionally to improve Safari performance.
1. Go to Settings > Safari.
2. Tap Clear History and Website Data.
3. Tap Clear History and Data to confirm.

Best of luck.

I have had this issue for a while, and I've been following this thread. I think the problem is coming from the "Google Doodle". I noticed as it changes, so does my ability to see the search bar. When it's back to no doodle and just the basic search bar I can set my zoom to normal and there are no issues. As soon as there is any sort of graphic the search bar disappears and I have to pull it down pr change my zoom. Now whether this is an Apple problem or a Google problem I don't know. Being that Google has their own Chrome AND Google App I'm sure they don't care if it works with Safari or not. Since Google is a competitor of sports, I'm sure Apple doesn't care either. So my final opinion on this is switch to Chrome or Google or deal with it because it's not going to ever get fixed.

Apple can blame Google all they want. It’s the Safari browser in iPhone and apparently it’s not a consistent issue because many people don’t have the same problem. I’ve tried in Chrome, Firefox, Opera… all on iPhone without an issue. In Windows on my PC, no issues. In Safari on my Mac… no problems. In every browser on my buddy’s Android… no problems. So how is this Google (which I will not defend in any way shape or form)? I have noticed that many times, there’s a pop up from the top by Google trying to get me to use the “Google App” to search instead of the browser. But even if that’s causing the issue, the problem is within Safari’s algorithms. Requesting desktop site is NOT a fix.

Soooooo… After mine reverted back I found that it’s a garbage Apple App(Safari) problem as usual and I downloaded the Mozilla Firefox app and it does not do it, go figure. I was using that for a couple days and it works great. Accidentally went into Safari yesterday and googled and noticed that it had changed again and shows the search bar again. Guess it depends on which day of the week you use it🤦🏼‍♂️🤣
