I have a saved list of one item for purchasing. I have now purchased the item, but am unable to remove the item and it continues to be shown as a “Saved Items (1)”. Attempts to remove the item from the unnamed list have failed. Thank you.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We'd recommend clearing Safari history and cache to help with that item still showing in your saved items.
