Music app iTunes folder - is it necessary? Monterey.

I'm running Monterey and when I used my Time Machine backup to upgrade from my old computer all the iTunes files moved over. Music app found them and all was fine except that they are apparently not the files which Music.app is using. There is another whole set of music files in the Music Folder which seems to contain the same data as the iTunes folder. Both are almost 100G of mp3s and I really don't need to use up 20% of my internal HD with duplicates.

Do I need the files in the iTunes folder or can I remove it from the Music folder and discard it from the Mac?

Elfpix,

If you are sure that iTunes/Music has all the files in its designated "Music Media file location," and you have no other use for the duplicate files, then you may delete them. If you have any doubts, run Consolidate first. It will put a copy into the designated folder if it not already there.

Also, I assume you have backup on an external drive; if not, make one first just in case.
