Battery’s maximum capacity at 98% at 28 cycles

I just want to ask to know for sure. My laptop is about a year old, wasn’t used very much for the first year either as I just needed it for school work. It’s been accidentally left in my trunk in my bag for a few cold nights, but nothing under 30 degrees iirc. Have i messed up my battery, or is this normal? It just seems to be degrading fast. I’m going to be using it much more often nowadays so i’d love to be on the safe side. Thanks!

Hi MacLover2012,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

With rechargeable batteries, it is normal for the battery to lose capacity overtime. There are several behaviors that contribute to the degradation of battery life. Your battery has a limited charge cycle. For MacBook Air it is generally 1000 charge cycles, but your Mac can continue to be used beyond the maximum cycle count.

Find this information and additional battery optimization charging tips in Determine battery cycle count for Mac laptops.

Regards.
