MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016) gasket
The gasket surrounding the display on my MacBook Pro is deteriorating for no apparent reason. Is this important? Is there something that can be done to repair or replace it?

I have seen this rubber gasket soften and fall apart on some of our organization's Macs. I've only seen a few cases, but each time it appears that the gasket may be reacting to some hand lotion the user is using since the spots are always exactly where the user holds the display to open & close the lid. Extreme care must be used when exposing the Mac to any chemicals whether they are in hand lotions, or cleaners used on the laptop.
On one laptop I was able to stabilize the rubber, but on another one I had just last week I had trouble stabilizing the rubber. I hesitate to provide any suggestions since what I have tried is very risky as it could cause other damage to the laptop and it is not 100% certain it will work since my "fix" didn't really work well on the last laptop.
Unfortunately the only official "fix" is to replace the entire display which is very expensive ($600+ US). The gasket itself is not replaceable since it fits beneath the glass. The rubber acts as a soft bumper for when the lid is closed, but some of the rubber gasket may act like a seal (I'm not certain since I've never removed the glass on the Retina models since it is nearly impossible to do so).
You can provide Apple with product feedback here (Apple won't respond):

Here is an Apple article with official guidance:
How to clean your Apple products - Apple Support
I have to support thousands of our organizations Macs and some users tend to treat their laptops terribly.
I have used LCD Screen cleaners without a problem to clean the glass since they don't contain harsh chemicals, but some displays can be so dirty that a damp cloth is not always enough. For some reason people love to touch the screen. Using anything else on the glass risks removing parts of the anti-reflective coating. In fact, just touching the laptop glass with your fingers rubbing the glass to open & close the lid is enough to rub the coating off in some cases. Same applies to using a microfiber cloth. Apple's been having issues with their anti-reflective coating since 2013 (it is better now, but it still comes off much too easily).
I've had to resort to some other cleaners like Windex to clean the aluminum case & palmrest because some of the laptops I work on are so dirty, but I try to avoid any harsh chemicals, but sometimes I am left with no choice. I do not use Windex on the screen at all as it can sometimes affect the anti-reflective coating.
Thanks for this response. What are the recommended cleaners for the MacBook Pro display?
